In other words: The Digital Nature engine (which was built from the ground up) exists only because of capital from Neoqb in a time when investors believed classic flightsims were still viable. In the end, their gamble and hard work did pay off, as they are now working with 1C on IL-2, which I believe was always the intention of both Jason and the original Gennadich Team developers. They never got rich off of RoF, but they did save the product from going under completely and they're the reason Rise of Flight is still alive today.

Having done that they found RoF to not be financially very successful (despite several times altering the game to suit its communitiy's wishes), so they moved on to the potentially more lucrative WW2 market.Īlso, they're enthusiasts rather than hard-headed businessmen - maybe they just wanted to make their ideal combat flightsim and thought that others would like it tooĪs a result of them needing to safeguard their livelihood, and the integrity of their flightsim, they're not going to open the code to modders. Leaving it up on Steam for people to find is certainly not a marketing strategy given that Steam houses thousands of games most of which come and go like night and day.ħ77 Studios did not initially develop this game - they took over from Neoqb. This is why I maintain that we as a community must do our own marketing to re-invigorate the game and if successful will indirectly place pressure on 777 Studios to see that a market still exists for their creation. Nothing was done to attract people to the simulation outside of this community leaving historians and other potential interested parties such as modelers out of the equation. Remember also, that Rise of Flight was also not well marketed since it was only to the game community that was targeted. Otherwise to build such a beautiful piece of software, without even knowing their market well enough to understand if it could sustain them financially, again makes little sense. I am of the opinion that Rise of Flight will eventually be farmed out to a partner organization similar to that of Team Fusion, who will implement the updated 777 graphics engine and extend the game. In that case, why not just build the engine for WWII sims alone?

To simply take its graphic engine and update it for their WWII sims only to leave the WWI sim behind does not make a lot of business sense.

According to their own admission it cost a frightful lot of money to develop this simulation. One has to wonder at times why 777 Studios even took the time to build Rise of Flight.
